Barista (BTPBT)

The Barista is a castable NPC that appears in Miitopia: Bringing the Party Back Together! They work at the Café at the Inn and run the Daily Grub menu. They are most prominent in Fancy Café Outings and at the Daily Grub window.

Appearance[]

The Barista wears an apron and a long-sleeved shirt with cuffs. They also wear a visor on their head. Their color scheme depends on where the Inn is (Greenhorne is green, Karkaton is red, Powdered Peaks is light blue, and so on). The Barista is almost never seen without their Griffin close by.

Personality[]

They have an unresting spirit, ever-determined and ever-aware. They have been known to be a major perfectionist, never settling for less than the best! It's unknown if this is what causes the restlessness mentioned in the Cast section. The Barista is friendly to both the Mii and monster parties and will check in on them from time to time. A rule they keep is that Grub prices are firm unless you have coupons, showing their respect for the Inn business. They often worry about their struggle to save both parties at the end of chapters, despite their fiery nature.

Relationships[]

This NPC is an ally to both parties, serving their needs with no issues. Because of this, the Barista is also an enemy to the big bad evil dude, Eclipse. They respect the Radical Spirit's wishes to not be ratted out to the Mii party about their goals. Though they rarely interact with anyone outside of the party, it is later revealed that the Lifeguard is their cousin. Also, they don't seem to know about the Arcade (much less the robot) at the Inn. The Griffin seen may be described as a pet, but they are more like a co-worker in the Barista's eyes.

Story Roles[]

The Barista ends up being a common target for Eclipse's attacks. Inns mean rest and refuge from the reign of rebellion, and the Barista stays IN the Inn almost all the time... this spells disaster. Although Eclipse is strong, the Barista can hold the line for a considerable time before intervention is needed.

In "Worst Nightmare Tower!", Barista suffers the first attack by the hand (ha, a pun) of Eclipse. The monster party arrives at the Inn too late to stop their face from being stolen. This initiates the boss fight between "Barista" Strawbearry and Play Possum. Afterwards, the Barista thanks the party greatly for the help, pay them generously and promise to "do better next time". The player reassures them that they don't need to do that, but the Barista says nothing further about it in the cutscene.
In "Brewing Sandstorm", the Inn comes under attack once more by a monster and their allies, but the Barista and Griffin are already one step ahead, having held the line for a long while. That night, the parties are snatched away after the Barista becomes tired. The protagonists lose their Jobs, too. It's known that she's incredibly sorry for letting this happen. They start to question if they're good enough to protect the parties from then on.
